The World is a Family Writing Paper

I was planning my language for this week and decided that "The World is a Family" by Rosie Adams would make a great introduction to our classroom discussions regarding equality, global connections, and unity:

'The world is a family

We are all one

Sharing together

Under the sun' 

After reading, we talked about what everyone in the world needs to live, feel valued and respected and loved. It's amazing how insightful 6 & 7 year olds can be. Our discussion quickly went from the basics we learned in science (food, water, shelter) to much more insightful ideas "you need someone to love you so you don't feel lonely", "you need freedom because you should be allowed to be anyone you want to be", etc.
